"Sacred Nature" at the WESTIN HAPUNA BEACH RESORT
WESTIN HAPUNA BEACH RESORT - ENNS ART SHOW
At the Westin Hapuna Beach Resort here on the Big Island of Hawaii, I have created a new show of paintings and sculptures on display now on the second floor, north tower.
The paintings where a culmination of several concepts I have been intrigued by, one painting in particular I'd like to talk about today is "INVESE" 40"x60".
Firstly the meditative calm that arose out of the pandemic and staying home really let me focus in some new directions. Mono-chromatic inverse palm tree images spoke to me, the idea of the simplicity and graphic nature combined with flipping the positive with the negative was something I felt spoke of the times we found ourselves living in. The painting "INVERSE" was the culmination of those studies and ideas, it was painted using studies I created at a friends house who was battling terminal cancer. Since I lost both my parents to cancer I felt a deep connection to situation with my friend and I painted this piece while I contemplated life, death, the pandemic and what it all meant to be an artist. I hope in the graphic solid nature of the piece some of that comes through, the harsh sharp edges, the inverse effect with color being limited, the hopeful gaze upward into the canopy of palms and the horizon line faint off in the distance with ocean barely visible below.
I hope you have a chance to view my show at the Westin Hapuna Beach Resort or on-line.
Thank you again and Mahalo,
Christian Enns
